What Was The Meaning of Jisoo Scenes in Lovesick Girls MV? Why Was the Shooting Hard for Jisoo??

BLACKPINK ‘s first full album “The Album“s leading song MV Lovesick Girls was highly acclaimed for it storytelling-like style.

In the  Lovesick Girls MV, except for Jisoo , there was always a boy in the stories of each member. Although we couldn’t see the times when Jennie was happy with her boyfriend, we could understand from the moments  she went crazy in the car and battered the treacherous lover, a failed relationship  made her “ lovesick “. On the other hand, we watched the happy moments of Lisa and Rose with their lovers as well as the moments of their “ending love pain” after their separation. If you remember, LOREN, who also contributed to the album as a songwriter, played the role of their useless lover.

The scenes of Jisoo were different from the other three members. Jisoo was alone in all three different scenes she acted. In the first scene, she wanders in the grass and flowers with an hourglass in his hand, in the second one she runs as if to blow her lungs, and in the last scene she enters to the pool at night. Many BLACKPINK fans couldn’t help asking themselves what was Jisoo up to. There were even those who said, “They have ignored Jisoo once again and did not give her a proper story; but only a series of disconnected scenes …“.

Actually, the value of scenes of Jisoo change depending on how you see it from your perspective the event and from my point of view they are quite meaningful! The disappointment and suffering from losing love (of other members) is a very understandable way of falling into lovesick state. But is that all about being “ lovesick” ?

Another very important cause of heart pain is being in a state of “not able to find the love you are looking for” ? You will wait for your soulmate for ages, but you may not find him at all, or you may find but you may not get a response and become a platonic lover… Some of us might be experiencing this now, while many of us have lived through it in the past and remember it. The scenes of Jisoo portrays those lovesick girls! Let’s try to examine the scenes one by one:

In the first scene, Jisoo wanders among the flowers with an hourglass. Flowers represent the hope of finding the love of her life and the nice things that follow, while the broken hourglass seems to represent that she can no longer tolerate waiting or that her belief in the the moment of reunion is running out. Part of this scene has been cut; where Jisoo actually started to cry at the last moment. This supports the scenario we envisioned.

Jisoo,  who feels like she is suffocated by never-ending waiting, hits the roads at night and starts running. Instead of waiting with shaky hope, she opts for a rebellious run.

In the third scene, we see Jisoo standing in a pool under rain. The pool seems to represent the emotions she was buried with. On the back, it says “NOTHING”. It seems to mean dual meanings. The first is that she admits that she could not get the love she was looking for, no matter how hard she tried. So she has “nothing at the end“. The second meaning is that it has been lonely for so long that nothing can hurt her anymore. Ice cold water doesn’t matter. There’s a risk of getting an electric shock from the electric sign, and she doesn’t care either. But still her eyes shout that she will continue to seek and wait for love! [Please pay attention to the intensity of emotion that Jisoo reflects with the expression in her eyes!]

Now we have examined all three scenes. As an extension of the above explanations, let’s also point out that there are also those who suggest that death separates Jisoo from her lover. From this perspective, the viewers say that Jisoo , who lost the love of her life due to a relentless illness or a traffic accident while there was no problem between them at all, led her first to a process of rebellion and then acceptance.

As a result, I think these scenes were very meaningful and deepened the value of the MV . Jisoo had serious difficulties in shooting the pool scene due to the cold weather and icy water. It was also night-time. YG Entertainment sees no harm in applying a commando protocol to its BLACKPINK members. They did not care that there was a virus epidemic or the girl’s immunity might fall or any other concern.
