On April 5, Red Velvet Wendy’s debut solo album “Like Water” has been released. Accordingly, Wendy made an interview and shared her thoughts on her first solo album with her fans.
In her interview, Wendy expressed about her solo album and video shoot-out:
“This is my first solo album, so I couldn’t believe it when I first heard it. After I started working on the album, I felt its authenticity. I felt I had a greater sense of responsibility, so I did my best to make music that contained my voice and my emotions. Whether I will be successful on my own was a serious question in my mind. I was worried about this, but a lot of people around me helped me. I wonder how it would be heard and liked. I tried to put the color of the band in Red Velvet but as a solo singer I had to focus on putting my own color.
Members have always sent me support messages and helped me keep track of my work. This gave me a sense of confidence and strength. They brought a lot of junk snacks to the music video shoot set. I am grateful to them for being so reliable. ”
Wendy explained her solo album: “This whole album is like my story and it has a warm emotional vibe. I wanted to help people relate to my voice and feel comfortable.”When This Rain Stops ” is about my own story. It took about 15 hours to record this song. They waited for me for a long time. I wanted to share my gratitude for the love they gave them, so I chose this song as one of my debut songs. “Like Water” is about sharing sympathy for the future so it’s a little different. ”
“Best Friend” is a duet with Red Velvet member and his same age friend Seulgi. “It was originally a solo track but I asked Seulgi and it became a duet piece,” Wendy said. “A song that shows a person’s appreciation for and feelings towards a friend”. Red Velvet Joy was a little jealous of Wendy singing this song with Seulgi.
Wendy continued in the interview: “There are so many great solo singers, I watched their work and learned a lot from them. As a solo singer I want to show myself a new side, but I also thought a lot about how to keep Red Velvet’s color. I think that’s my strength. Deep. I want to show my voice rather than share a message. I’ve been looking for my own color during the album preparation process until now.
This is my first solo album since debut, I don’t expect much. I just want to share my peace and emotion with many people through my voice. I hope I can be an artist that many people can connect with. I will sing with all my heart for those who have been waiting for me for a long time, so please look forward to me. ”
