Latest Situation at MAMA 2020: Knife Edge Competition!

Latest Situation at MAMA 2020: Knife Edge Competition!

Final statuses have been calculated for different categories for the MAMA 2020 awards. In some categories,  BTS and BLACKPINK have a fierce competition at the top. Let’s look at the calculations one by one:

Let’s first look at Song of the Year category. In this category, there is a fierce competition between BTS’s Dynamite and BLACKPINK ‘s How You Like That . Since Dynamite has not yet been released under any album (it will be the last track on the BE album), it pulls zero points regarding the 10 percent weight of “Album” criterion. According to the votes cast over the internet, on the other hand, Dynamite stands out. Overall, How You Like That leads. The votes of the Judge Panel, which will have a weight of 40 percent in this category, will be decisive . Fans of BTS are trying to increase gears to increase their fans’ votes on the internet against the handicap of not having an album. But of course BLACKPINK fans are also in a rush to make a similar breakthrough. It’s really exciting, let’s see how the final ranking will improve.

Secondly, as for the album of the year, BTS looks pretty comfortable here. 60 percent of album sales dominate this award and the difference is highly obvious. Also,  Seventeen and NCT should also be applauded for their sales despite being only fourth generation groups. It is estimated that the decisions of the arbitration committee weighing 40 percent will be more or less similar to the proportion of album sales.

In the Artist of the Year award, BTS is ahead in all criteria including physical album sales (CD, LP, cassette), digital album sales and online votes. BLACKPINK doesn’t seem to have a chance to catch BTS, but they are in second place.

Below are the rankings according to the track categories. At the top is Best Solo Dance Performance and Whasa’s Maria seems to be able to take a comfortable first place. In Best Girl Group Dance Performance in the middle, BLACKPINK comes first but RED VELVET rivals them with Psycho. There is a difference, but frankly, it is not a difference that cannot close. In the third place, Best Boy Group Dance Performance , BTS seems to be taking a comfortable first place with Dynamite .

At the top of the table below is the category Best Hip Hop § Urban Music . ZICO ranks first with Any Song . Changmo is in second place with METEOR; but the difference seems a bit wide apart. At the middle there is the Best Collaboration category, and as expected, Suga from IU and BTS is by far the first in order. The bottom category is Best Original Sound Track , and in this category Gaho is in the first place with Start for Itaewon Class . This is the OST song that I wholeheartedly support, but when we look at the points, we cannot say that the difference between Jo Jungsuk and Aloha will not close; because the weight of the scores of the arbitration committee is 40 percent.

In the Best Solo Vocal Performance rankings, IU seems to reach a comfortable first place with Blueming . Likewise, in Best Group Vocal Performance , Mamamoo does not seem to lose the top with HIP. If you want to always play and sing, there is a knife-edge competition between Day6 and MC The Max in the Best Band Performance category!

We came to the artist categories. In the Best New Male Artist category, Treasure is far ahead. In the category of Best Boy Group , BTS almost walked away. In Best Male Artist we see Baekhyun; he also seems very comfortable about the first place.

In the Best New Female Artist category, there will be a knife-edge competition between Weekly and Secret Number. There is almost no room for a third name! In the Best Female Group category, there is a competition of BLACKPINK and TWICE , but BLACKPINK seems to have made an important headway. The weight of the arbitration committee score is 30 percent. Best Female Artist is IU; she also seems to have secured the first place.
