On September 9, 2020, in the video shared on GQ Youtube , members of BTS tell us about their style heroes.
First of all, it is worth mentioning, not GQ Korea or GQ Japan, the video posted on the GQ homepage.
First, Jin speaks and detonates the bomb: “My style hero is myself!” Bandmates react instantly “oooo”. He emphasizes that the key point is not to stress about clothing and not to feel under pressure. He says you should wear whatever you desire, whatever outfit you feel comfortable with. When you wake up, take a look, wear whatever clothes you see, don’t bother yourself. You will never think about what others might say. The important thing is what you really want to do. His this quote especially caught my attention: “Others do not care or think about your clothes as much as you think and worry about. Just care for your own comfort”.
J-Hope takes the floor second and surprises us with his answer. His style hero was Snoopy . Yeah, you didn’t read it wrong, that white doggy in the cartoons. Snoopy was the inspiration for his style that helped him present himself in a funny, entertaining way. J-Hope states that he is wearing Snoopy dresses and pajamas As a style suggestion, he says you should wear whatever you want, style is found with a bit of search and trial and error. For him, the process has developed in this way; his style has evolved by constant experimentation spreaded over time.
Next is Suga. His style hero is Batman ! Especially the Batman version we saw in the movie “The Dark Knight”. Suga usually does not speak English with long sentences, but here he spokes in English and he is good at it. He says it is Batman because he is an ordinary person like us, he does not have superhuman features. Subsequently, he says that her mother is very interested in dressing up, and she was very involved with dressing Suga well when he was little. Suga further expresses that he likes to wear bright and assertive pieces that stand out during during his adolescence days. He emphasizes that he is now an adult and is choosing clothes that make him comfortable rather than make him show off.
Jimin states that his style hero is ARMY. In fact, it goes without saying that ARMY has inspired all aspects of his life: “Because they are my reason for living”. He adds that he is trying hard to be as friendly, sensitive and warm like them. As for the style advice, he expresses that we should first trust ourselves. He says all these sentences with his soft voice tone and his graceful looks, which makes you so so distracted that you come to a point asking yourself: “Really, what was the subject?”
Jungkook says that his style hero is her bandmate RM : “The starting point of my current life was RM,” she says. He adds that RM was older brother to whom I was very close and learned a lot from him. He says that besides his looks and musical genius, RMe also inspired him with his sexy intelligence and perspective. He says: “I did not adopt his style exactly, but his way of thinking, his speech, and his relationship with music made a critical contribution to my style.” On the other hand, within the context of Jungkook’s style suggestions to us, he emphasizes that he does not think that he has a special style of his own, but being attentive to your style can be an important method to express yourself. In fact, our style adds to it as a kind of expression of our personality.
RM describes two painters as his style heroes. These are Kim Whanki and Yun Hyong Keun . The painters famous for their abstract painting which also reveals RM’s intellectual depth. These two artists have opposite characteristics and for RM, these two together provide an inspiring mix for his style. As a style suggestion, RM says that personal style will fit over time after experimenting followed by more experimenting. “Style is an accumulation”.
Finally, V states that his father is his style hero. His father ran a clothing store a long time ago and had his own special style. Old photographs of his father have always been a source of inspiration for him. On the other hand, he emphasizes that style should be a personal phenomenon and adds: “although I am inspired, my style and my father’s style are different. He said additionally: “Our common side in terms of style are our facial features. In fact, this is probably his best inheritance from his father. As the style advice he says: “Be yourself, discover your own special style”
