BTS V‘s Childhood and Family Background
V was born as Kim Taehyung on December 30, 1995 in Daegu in South Korea. The premonitory dream informing about his birth was as follows: His father made a bet on a snooker game against a dragon and he won the bet. The dragon gave a pearl to his father and Taehyung came out of this pearl as it opened up.
Taehyung grew up in Geochang County in South Gyeongsangi, which is considered as countryside and has a different dialect than dialect of Seoul. The names of parents of V are not disclosed, we know that they are alive, and their occupation was farming when V came to world. He is the eldest of three children. Kim Taehyung has two younger siblings, one boy and one girl, whose names are Kim Eonjin and Kim Jeonggyu. Due to the intensive and highly scheduled lifestyle of being a trainee and then an idol, he could not spend much time with his family. As another detail, V and Jimin used to be classmates in Korean Arts High School, from where he graduated in 2014.
V and BTS
Kim Taehyung initially went to the Big Hit Entertainment audition to support a friend. At that incident, he was walking and looking around Big Hit’s Academy building, where one of the personnel from Rookie Development Group of the company noticed his eye-popping visuals and asked him if he would consider an audition. He called his parents, got their permission, and was auditioned. He aced the audition and you know the rest.
V‘s nicknames are TaeTae (friends call him like this because it’s easy to say) and BlankTae, because he has blank expression most of the time. Before he received his stage name, he had the choice of picking either Six, Lex, or V, and he chose V, because it stands for victory.

In 2018, Eugene Investment & Securities Co. conducted analytical research on Google search trends relating to the K-pop industry. “V” ranked first on the chart, meaning it was the number one most searched keyword for the past five years in South Korea. According to Gallup Korea, he occupies the 4th spot in most preferred idol rankings as of 2019.
V won the “The Best Handsome Face (2017)” and “The Best Handsome Man in the World (2018)” titles. V is announced as the “Most Handsome Man of 2020 in the World” by YouTube channel Top 10 World, which has over 300,000 subscribers. Taehyung captured the number 1 spot in the Top 10 Most Handsome K-pop male phase 2020-2021 according to TopGomiz. On top of that, V has held the top spot of “Ultimate Asian Heartthrob of 2020” list of Starmometer. Netizens are voting for V for three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020 in this list.

V is a baritone, but he can also sing in falsetto! His voice is most distinguishable from other members for its deep, husky vocal range. His style is versatile in the sense that he can go both ends of the spectrum of modern and classic looks. He prefers colorful, bold patterned shirts and polos inside pants, which are generally dark monocolor, but he can match printed top with a printed bottom. At one instance you see him in basic causal clothes colored in earth-tones (aka Skywalker from Star Wars), other day you are bedazzled when you see him in a stage costume in which he glitters like a prince or a ballet. V came up with the famous phrase “보라해” (Borahae), which means “I purple you” (Bora means purple/violet and saranghae means I love you, combination is Borahae, which means purple+action = purple you). This phrase, as well as the color purple itself, has become a trademark for BTS and ARMY. This phrase is BTS‘ way of showing their love and trust for ARMY. Purple is seen as a color that indicates long-lasting trust, love, and affection. V elaborates on the meaning of the phrase as such: “Purple is the last color of the rainbow colors, so it means I will trust and love you until the end; until the last breath of mine”.
Big Hit Entertainment sponsored “#ENDviolance” campaign of UNICEF in November 2017, where UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H. Fore extended her sincere thanks to BTS and the BTS ARMY for their effort to raise over $1 million (later this increased to $ 2 million) for their work to end violence against children and young people. BTS V has played a role in a major K-drama!
V appeared in the Korean television historical drama Hwarang, which began airing in December 2016 and finished in February 2017. He played the role of Hansung, who is an adorable, cute and innocent character in the series. Taehyung was the youngest actor of the cast. If you haven’t watched yet, we urge you to watch it as the series has an interesting plot and a great cast including the highly acclaimed actor Park Seo-joon. The IMDB score of the series is 7.9, which can be regarded as a decent score.
V has adorable plans for future: retirement, love, and family affairs
Regarding to his retirement, V thinks he will continue his career until 40 such as singing and acting without a problem.
He declared that he had not been in a serious relationship yet and his hope is to marry his first love. He wants to devote the rest of his life to my future wife. So romantic! Moreover, he wants three children.
His ideal type is someone who takes care of him and does a lot of aegyo. He wants someone who is charming and wears chic clothing and wide pants. He likes long-haired women who are chic on the outside but have warm hearts. V’s ideal woman is thoughtful, cares for him a lot and uses money wisely. He said he had a dream of wearing a brown beret and coat, feeding pigeons at a park in fall. Another time, he said his ideal date includes going to an amusement park or a nearby nature park. V has done great solo music acts as well as notable collaborations
In December 2014, V covered “Someone Like You” of Adele. He sang this song so soulfully with his deep voice bringing added layers of emotion. The clip is shot while V walking through a narrow street alley; while it looks so unsophisticated, it has an almost iconic sentimental ambiance.
V released a cover of “Hug Me” of Joonil Jung with his BTS bandmate J-Hope in May 2015. The song starts with soothing, delicate vocals of V and suddenly J-Hope enters with his fast, textured rap. Such an addictive combination…
V had his first solo song “Stigma” within the 2016 album “Wings”, which hit 10th rank on the Billboard World Digital Singles Chart.
Together with his bandmate Jin, V sang “It’s Definitely You” for the original soundtrack of TV series “Hwarang” that he also acted.
In June 2017, V released “4 O’Clock“, which was a song he co-produced with fellow BTS member RM, to celebrate BTS’ fourth anniversary.
