A Weird Korean-Style Censorship

A Weird Korean-Style Censorship

Netizens are talking about a strange case of censorship in Korea. The biggest figure skating (also known as figure skating, as our grandfather calls it ice dancers, etc. – in English “Figure Skating”) athlete Kim Yuna starred in a commercial. The company censored her calf (lower leg) muscles in a pose for an advertisement. Specifically, not the calf, but her muscle structure in the calf, censored.

We will understand if they censor their legs or calves or some other body part completely. As can be seen from the photos below, they photoshopped Yuna‘s calf muscles to smooth it out.

Shall this be done to the legendary athlete of the country, who is the 2010 Olympic Champion, the 2014 Olympic Runner-up, and who crossed the 200-point threshold for the first time in history? Would she able to do it with jellyfish-like legs without any muscles? The advertising company might have thought that she may look not feminine when she looks muscular…

Korean netizens reacted to this incident. In their reaction, they said, “Those muscles symbolize the effort she has spent over the years and they have erased all that effort by deleting those muscles.

Also, Kim’s calf muscles are not too big or misshapen; indeed they seem to have ideal appearance.

By the way, it is also arguable whether having muscles is a bad thing in women. For example, when BTS’s Jungkook was asked what do you care about in the opposite sex (affection, sincerity, warmth …), he answered “Abs”. Haha.
